The Katsina State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Al-Ojaimi, a global manufacturer of power distribution equipment, to procure distribution transformers and improve electricity supply across the State.

The agreement followed a factory tour of Al-Ojaimi’s manufacturing facilities by the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, and forms part of the administration’s strategy to enhance grid stability, expand rural electrification, and improve power reliability, particularly in underserved communities.

Under the MoU, the State Government, in collaboration with the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), will procure and deploy Al-Ojaimi’s distribution transformers to address equipment failures, network overload, and inconsistent power supply. The Governor was accompanied on the tour by the Managing Director and Chief Technical Officer of KEDCO, reflecting strong operational alignment.

A key component of the partnership is the establishment of an Al-Ojaimi Service Centre in Katsina State to serve Katsina, Kano, and Jigawa States. The centre will provide transformer maintenance, repairs, testing, and technical support, reducing downtime and improving response to network faults. It will also support training and skills development for Katsina State indigenes, creating employment opportunities and promoting technology transfer.

The delegation included the Special Adviser to the Governor on Power and Renewable Energy, Dr. Hafiz Ibrahim, and the Lead Consultant to the State Government. Strategic advisory support is being provided by Stag Consulting.

The Katsina State Government described the MoU as a first-of-its-kind collaboration between a sub-national government, a distribution company, and a global OEM, aligned with Governor Radda’s development agenda on infrastructure renewal, rural electrification, youth employment, and private-sector-led growth.
